Introduction

E*thirteen has designed the new e*spec Plus wheels to meet the higher weight and increased torque loads demanded by E-Bikes, but that’s not to say they can’t be used on regular mountain bikes. The e*spec Plus is a truly robust wheel, in a package that’s light enough to be used for Enduro racing.

The rear wheel is built around a new hub design that increases the dynamic load capacity by 53% and decreases axle deflection by 37% which are all nice numbers, but what does it really mean? Well, by using an outboard bearing in the freehub it is better able to disperse the increased loads and the steel axle is provided with a pinch bolt to reduce deflection (play) without affecting rolling resistance. The freehub assembly is triple-sealed and provides 6 engagement.

Front hubs are 15 x 110mm Boost only and rear hubs are 12 x 148mm Boost only and available with XD driver or Shimano Microspline freehubs. The front 28-hole and rear 32-hole rims are made from 6069 aluminium, as are the hubs, and the wheels are built in a 3-cross lacing using custom triple-butted J-Bend spokes, alloy nipples and washers. 27.5″ rims get a 35mm internal width while the 29″ rims have an internal width of 30mm.

Built wheels come pre-taped with tubeless valves fitted for ‘Tubeless Ready’ compatibility out of the box and they are supplied with 3 spare spokes, nipples and washers.
